The Great Punpkin

DIY October 19, 2017

If you’re anything like me you love when the weather changes but the pallet may not be your favorite. I mean there isn’t a lot of pink in a pile of leaves.  Well you too can participate in the Holloweenie festivities will some pretty pumpkinny goodness.

I just grabbed a few pretty pumpkins from Vons. Then I sprayed and glittered away.

Happy Halloween!

We All Scream!

Let’s be honest, with world hunger, violence, terrorism, and any other number of regular atrocities, taking pictures in sprinkle pools and with life-sized gummy bears might seem like pointless fluff.  And, partly, it is.  However, I liken all of the heaviness of this life to a huge swimming pool.  On one end the water is 3 feet deep and the other end is 30.  We can only stay in the deep end for so long before we need to head back to the shallow end and catch a breather.  This is that breather.  We can handle everything that comes our way but we need to learn how to recharge our batteries.  I do it by focusing on things that make me happy.  Things like pink, cuteness, documentaries, glitter, crafts, and yoga.  This week it was the Museum of Ice Cream that made all of my pink and colorful dreams come true.  Here are some images, I hope you enjoy and find a little happiness today!

Pink Ombre Cake Time!

DIY, Food, Lifestyle June 2, 2017

File_000 (2).jpeg

I love cake.  Well, I guess there aren’t many people that hate cake…but I really really love it.  My mother was a big baker and we baked a cake every Friday.  It was our Sabbath tradition.  So, I want to integrate it into my new life with my hubby.

File_002 (13).jpeg

Today isn’t a baking lesson, just a little cuteness for your day.  But this is the very helpful baking pan set I used from Target.   I bought a simple white boxed cake and used some of the massive amounts of pink food coloring I have lying around the house…yes I have so so much pink food coloring.  I gathered 5 bowls and added 1 cup of batter to each bowl.  Then I added no food coloring to the first bowl, .5 drops to the second, 1 drop to the third, 2 drops to the fourth bowl, and 3 drops of food coloring to the fifth bowl.  I mixed them well and added them to the pan and baked them as directed.  They baked very fast.  Keep an eye on them.

Make a Balloon Wall With Me!

Beauty, DIY, Lifestyle May 25, 2017

File_000 (42).jpeg

So number one, today is my birthday!!! Yay, throw some glitter in the air!!!!  Every bday I attempt to do some adorable DIY and this year is kinda my favorite.  I mean look at this pink and floral goodness!

File_000 (35).jpeg

I started with an inordinate amount of balloons (light pink, pearl pink, white, and clear),  glitter, confetti, a handmade paper cone (for putting glitter and confetti in the balloons), string, and a manual balloon pump.

File_000 (37).jpeg

I blew up all the balloons in different sizes and added glitter and confetti to the clear ones.  Then I tied a string to something static, I choose my drawer knob and began tying balloons to the string.  I spaced each balloon about four inches apart with a total length of 7 feet of string.  I made a total of 5 strings.  Then I taped them to the wall, by the string, adding tape to any area of string that I felt needed to be secured.

File_000 (7).jpeg

I flattened the balloons against the wall and occasionally taped one of them down too.  Well, there were a few bald spots so I added a few free-floating balloons with a tiny roll of tape-sometimes more than one.

File_000 (45).jpeg

The wall didn’t feel complete so I added some silver dollar eucalyptus, lemon leaves, ranunculus, and silk peonies.  At first, I tied strings around the ends of branches and tied them to other strings in the greater structure.  This became exhausting so I literally started taping them directly to the wall or to balloons themselves.

File_000 (40).jpeg

This is what I ended up with, stinking cute.  I placed a pink backdrop below my creation in preparation for my shoot.

File_000 (41).jpeg

Then just get cute and shoot!

If anyone makes a balloon wall I simply MUST see!!! Happy crafting my lovelies.

The Best Staycation Yet!

Lifestyle, travel September 20, 2016

File_000 (20).jpeg

My Hubby and I are working on perfecting the staycation.  I mean, why live in sunny California if you don’t take full advantage of obscure hotels, unique restaurants, and Cali’s great ecological diversity.  Where else can you surf and ski in the same day?  Well, yesterday was a double whammy it was my husband’s birthday and our 6 month wedding anniversary.  So, we took a little weekend trip to Palm Springs and stayed at the Saguaro Hotel.  Just enjoy the colorful pictures!

Cute Shoot: the Pinkening

Beauty, Fashion, Lifestyle July 27, 2016

Maybe you haven’t noticed but pink is kinda my favorite color. Actually, pink is a serious obsession of mine. Things like this always get me thinking. Why do we favor colors? There have actually been quite a few studies about this and it is referred to as the ecological valence theory. Nerd alert 🤓!!!  I won’t get too deep but basically we’ve evolved to use color for survival then we feel all the feels when we see our favorite colors. The more feels we feel the more we favor our favorite color. That’s the evolution/socialization debate in like two sentences. Where’s my Pulitzer?

Ultimately, I think Aerosmith said it right …

“Pink it’s my new obsession

Pink it’s not even a question,

Pink on the lips of your lover, ’cause

Pink is the love you discover”

“Pink it was love at first sight, and

Pink when I turn out the light

Pink gets me high as a kite

And I think everything is going to be all right

No matter what we do tonight.”

Hello Cafe

Food, Lifestyle July 25, 2016

FullSizeRender 2.jpg

Without being even a little bit dramatic, I think I’ve been to the cutest place on the planet.  We call it the Hello Kitty Cafe.  Things don’t get more adorable than bow cut out guard rails, adorable employees all in pink with little bows, sprinkle decor, and pink everything.  My hour long wait in the 100 degree weather was worth it, worth it, worth it.  What’s a little sweat and some ruined edges between friends?

So, if you want to go out to the Cafe you first have to head to the Irvine Spectrum.  Not a bad place to end up.  You also get to wait in line in the shadow of this nostalgic ferris wheel.  This is the first Hello Kitty Cafe in the US and it will only be here for a year, so don’t wait too long.  I’ve heard rumors that it may stick around but let’s wait and see before we engage in too much wishful thinking.

The line is fabulously long, but I guess that means that you get to make new friends and get a tan.  My wait gave me some time to get interviewed by the Japanese media.  No idea what channel but I guess I’ll be on on the news somewhere talking about my obsession with pink and Hello Kitty’s positive outlook on life.  As an aside, I also caught a Pikachu, the Spectrum is lousy with them.  Go team Mystic!

FullSizeRender.jpg

I was half exhausted half trying to give FACE. You can see the desire to sit down in my eyes.  Necessity truly is the mother of invention and this hair style was an impromptu, in line, necessity.  I pulled it back, rolled it upward, and tucked into my headband.  This may happen again.

Finally, I made it to the front of the line.  YAY!!!!!!

Here’s where they keep all the goodies.  There are pocket pies both berry and Nutella, birthday cake, puff pastries, and strawberry cake.  There are bow shaped water bottles and an assortment of lemonades.  I got strawberry mint.  I heard rumors that there were donuts but I didn’t see any.

Here is the cashier taking the order for the very cute family behind me.  I think they had the happiest baby in the world.

Here’s the Japanese news reporter eating in the shade.

My bag of swag, two bottles of water, a pocket pie, and a mug.  I love the gentle pink light that was cast one me from the pink and white striped awning.

This was probably the best strawberry, mint lemonade ever.  After standing in 100 degree weather for over an hour, it was everything!

One for me, one for my bestie!  She’s the real Hello Kitty aficionado.

This pocket pie may look unassuming but it may ave been the most tasty thing I’ve ever eaten.  It may be due to my fast from sugar and meat but it was absolutely transcendental.

And finally we have my mug.  My coffee has never been cuter.

Spotty

Beauty, DIY, Lifestyle July 18, 2016

I’ve really been into nails lately, random!  Well I was inspired by, my fave, Oh Joy’s nails. Ugh she’s such a dream. If you want this look keep reading!

Get the colors you want. I went with gold pink and purple. I recommend at least 3 colors with a neutral base. Put together all of the typical nail accoutrement; files, orange sticks, cuticle cream and some q-tips.

Cut your q-tips.

Here’s my neutral base!

Take your cut q-tips, dip them in your chosen color and spot away.

Don’t be scared to layer, I tend to start with three dots on each nail then add more as I see fit. Get creative!

Add two layers of top coat and voilà!!!

Have a Metallic Easter

DIY, Lifestyle, Photography March 26, 2016

So, my wedding was last week!  I can’t wait to post those pix but for now we’ll have to settle for the cutest holiday of the year…EASTER!!!!!  Easter is all about the sacrifices of our Lord and Savior or just an obsession with eggs, bunnies, and chocolate. Well, for me it’s all about creating something obnoxiously adorable…hence, metallic Easter eggs.

Gather the usual suspects, metallic spray paints (Rose gold, silver, and gold) and some copper nail polish. I chose Penny Talks by Essie.
Let’s start with our perfect little marble eggs. Get a cup and fill it with lukewarm water. This is important, if the water is too cold the nail polish will sink to the bottom of the cup rather than float on the top. We need the nail polish to float.

Add your nail polish. I make a little squiggle so a pretty pattern emerges.

 Here we go!!!

Dip the egg and roll it around a little. That’s it…let it dry, it back, and feel like an artist!

Take the rest of your eggs to a well ventalated area, nobody wants to loose brain cells, and spray away! I only did one layer per egg but had to allow each side to dry before flipping the egg and spraying the other side.

This is what I ended up with and I’m very pleased. Gilded eggs for Easter!!!!!

Yay!!!!
