I swear there is something in the water.  My life has become an endless parade of baby showers, blessings, sprinkles, and nursery decor.  So, when a dear friend of mine asked that I make a little something for her nursery I jumped on it…gotta practice for the future, right?  Well, she bought the Oh Joy! nursery line from Target so I had some parameters to work within.  If you read my blog you have probably already heard of Oh Joy, basically she’s a crafting and design Goddess that now is uber paid by Target!  Basically, a genius!!!

I decided to make a mobile.  Newborns can only see about 12 inches from the tip of their cute little noses, so the little one might not see the colorful soft mobile until she about 6 months old.  But the colors may actually be neurologically stimulating and help her cute little brain develop.  Ok, let’s get to the actual project.  There are a lot of steps to this so if you are already exhausted but still want one contact me and I’ll make you one, for a nominal fee of course.  Send me your colors and it’s done!  For those of you that are a little craftier keep reading.

First, you must make a ton of poms.  You can make them on your fingers or make this little cardboard template.

img_7855

Cut one long piece of yarn and place it toward the end of the notch in the cardboard.

Then wrap the yarn.  I wrap it around at 60 times.

Tie it off with the long piece of string, then push it to the other side and tie it off again.  Gotta keep it strong and tied.

Then you cut the sides of the yarn.

After both sides are cut pull it free from the carboard template.

You are left with this awkward little thing.

Trim.

Yay!  Now repeat this step about 30 more times.

Now let’s move on to the mobile frame. I used a needlepoint ring.  I actually didn’t use the piece with the screw on it but I used the inner piece.  You can get these for like $2 at Michaels.  Tie 5 long strings at equal intervals around the circle.  Keep more string at the top so you can hang the mobile however you want.

After tying on all the strings start wrapping yarn around the ring until it is completely covered.  Have fun!!!

Once that’s done you need to start adding the poms.  I make a little needle from some extra wire I had lying around.

Skewer your pom.

Then trim again!

Add poms in any way you wish I just tried to make sure colors were equally dispersed and you’re done.

I’ve really been into nails lately, random!  Well I was inspired by, my fave, Oh Joy’s nails. Ugh she’s such a dream. If you want this look keep reading!

Get the colors you want. I went with gold pink and purple. I recommend at least 3 colors with a neutral base. Put together all of the typical nail accoutrement; files, orange sticks, cuticle cream and some q-tips.

Cut your q-tips.

Here’s my neutral base!

Take your cut q-tips, dip them in your chosen color and spot away.

Don’t be scared to layer, I tend to start with three dots on each nail then add more as I see fit. Get creative!

Add two layers of top coat and voilà!!!

DIY Christmas

Lifestyle December 25, 2015

Better late than never!  Of course I wanted to post this days ago but life just kept happening and I mindfully went with her.  But seriously Christmas is my FAVORITE holiday. The smells, colors, family, food, decorations, and the CRAFTS!  Christmas crafts are on a whole other level. Definitely the holy grail. Well, I did a good deal of crafting this year and I’ll kinda walk you through some…

Any good DIY project worth its salt involves repurposing some old once useful object into a new more meaningful one. For my DIY Christmas I repurposed some old lightbulbs into Christmas tree ornaments.

My photog fiancé is the king of lighting…I mean his first word was literally light. So I figured this would be a great addition to our holiday decor. It’s easy,  I wrapped some twine around the bulb and hung them up. Bang!

Our colors were black and white so I played it up with some black ribbon, glitter and satin, (class you), some black ornaments, and white flowers. If you noticed my tree stand is an upside down ikea end table. The crafting way, repurpose, reuse, recycle. Got it from Oh Joy‘s yard sale. I made some 3D stars for my walls and to top my adorable little tree. I found a tutorial here.

We get a new camera/photography related ornament every year. We only have two to show for ourselves but I’m pretty sure we have time to grow our collection.

Next, I cut out about one million Christmas trees. There were so many. I stuck them on everything. You may even remember them from a previous post of mine. Hmmm I wonder who will find the post first?

This is the view into our cute little kitchen. Wish I was organized enough to take pictures of everything. Sometimes the holidays just get away from you.

Jump for Joy

Art, DIY April 19, 2015

I have been painfully absent for the past few weeks.  Engagement parties, trips, wedding planning, business meetings, and tons of crafting projects have kept me super busy. But I’m back!!! And I’m excited to announce that my traverses brought me to the fabulous Joy Cho’s  book signing in Los Angeles. Well, I live in LA so I didn’t have to travel that far.

Her book is possibly the cutest accumulation of crafts and adorableness I’ve ever owned and I own a lot of Martha Stewart magazines.  The book, in a nutshell, is about bettering the lives of those around you through creativity and beautiful things. That’s what I’m all about and now I’m super motivated to just, be better.

The whole shebang took place at the West Elm in Beverly Hills. This is actually one of my favorite furniture and nick nack spots, so I was doubly excited!

I got there early and it was a pretty active crowd. It got the the point where it was super difficult to walk around. Joy brings a pretty big crowd.

Then I became pretty obsessed with their paper cup garlands.

I got to eat salted caramel ice cream with chocolate “gravel” from Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams.

    Edit

Finally the piece de resistance, I got to chat with Joy. Super sweet and motivational!
