Yay!!! Valentines Day is coming!!!  I’m never truly ready but I’m trying to get a little festive.

Flowers and gifts are getting me in the spirit.

Then I decorated a little…let’s be honest this isn’t really my husband’s thing.

Growth

Lifestyle, Mental Health July 11, 2016

I rarely get serious on Cigars and Cupcakes but with our country more fractured than I’ve seen in my lifetime; it’s time to grow. Not just grow as individuals but together as a race, the human race. I know that’s so corny and over used but so acurate. It’s time to focus on our similarities, learn about and love our differences, and empathize with eachoher’s pain. Acknowledging one persons pain does not disregard the pain of another. It just allows us an opportunity to show empathy and love.

Let’s unite, Black, White, whatever!  It’s time to grow together as a planet and spread love and kindness wherever we go!

Every time you see a flower growing amid other plants think about the beauty of diversity. Look at that flower and remind yourself that it was once a seed just like every other plant. Seeds grow into different sized plants and have different colors or shapes but ultimately they all grow together to create a beautifully complex ecosystem. I love sharing my ecosystem with each of you.

Party All The Time!

Advice, DIY, Wedding June 22, 2015

Throwing parties are one of the funniest/most stressful part of being a future bride.  It takes equal parts intense planning and a total “go with the flow” mindset. So needless to say, I had to do a lot of meditating last week.  Here’s a quick walk through engagement party #2 Orange County.

Fresh flowers were a must.   My favorite DIY floral arrangements include Peonies, lisianthus, hydrangea, hanging amaranthus, and tons of greenery.  Oh and I also spray painted some Starbucks bottles for vases.

I like to add a little quote to remind everyone why they came.

Then there was our LOVE table.

I simply love brunch, so our engagement party was filled with eggs, pancakes, fruit, veggie meat, and all types of confections.  I made some cookies that I will feature in a future post.

No brunch is complete without mini pancakes and fresh berries.

Selfie cookies were a must.  Such a great company!

Just me and my Mommy!  Also, note the floral wall.  This was my favorite project of the event.

Two of my 7 bridesmaids were able to make it out.  In these days and times we live all across the globe and it’s good to see each other when we can.

See what they gave me?  Oh it’s nothing, just a basket FULL of cuteness!!!

There were selfies galore, this was one of my favorites!

Stevie did some singing, there’s no way he can be within 20 feet of a piano and not take full advantage.

The party was a day before my Grandma turned 89.  Yup, this lady is 89, Black don’t crack.  I believe that’s what they say.

Even Erin and Kevin were surprised.

These women have all known me since before I was even myself.  They have been spectacular guides and wonderful examples.

We welcome the new additions to our family with open arms.  We were so glad Pastor White, my soon to be Father-in-law made it out.  There’s my flower wall again…it made another appearance.  Embrace it!!!

Overall, the day was a success.  Aaron and I thank all of you that made it out and those of you who were there in spirit.  XOXOXO

2015/01/img_3820.jpg

The holidays were absolutely nuts.  It was a flurry of family, friends, and drum roll please I got engaged!!! Along with about 2 million other lucky ladies from your social media feed.  So, basically, I’m beyond excited and can’t wait to plan the rest of my life with my best friend.  I’ll try to post as often as possible and continue taking pictures of my random crafts.

Here is the ubiquitous ring in the car shot.  Come on, I had to, give a girl a break.  Gotta love my big guy, he did so well.

Passions

Advice, Mental Health April 22, 2014

My boyfriend and I love to talk, no postulate, on things from gender roles, to religion, to minority issues, to how we can better the world through knowledge. This weekend we found ourselves cuddling on the couch talking about basic principles of evolution, religion, and the limits of human understanding. It served to remind me of how important social interaction is. Exchanging ideas and getting excited about the debate gave me the energy to get half way through this week. So, basically I’m thankful for my completely nerdy boyfriend. We should all find ways to engage in our passions this week. How do you know something is a passion? What gets your blood pressure up, puts a ridiculous smile on your face, and keeps you up at night with ideas? That’s probably your passion. Find yours and thrive.

My Love of Love

Advice August 27, 2013

20130827-190151.jpg

I have historically seen love as this amazing, exciting, and totally mesmerizing thing; often diving head first into the shallow end of the preverbal, love pool. I guess I’m lucky I’ve recovered every time. As a neuroscience nerd I’m always reminding myself that I’m just experiencing a surge of oxytocin or my estrogen levels are off because of my “visitor” you know what I mean. But I read this amazing blog post on Brain Pickings about 5 of the best novels written on the psychology of love. Please head to the link and love it as munch as I did.

Lacy, Luscious, Love!

Lifestyle April 4, 2012

Style of the day, LACE!  The graceful body melding lace and crystal overlays on this wedding dress are any girly girl’s wedding day dream and the two delicious mini dresses partly inspired by 60’s mod are totally scandalous.  Overall, these lacy treasures get a 9 of 10; almost perfect is pretty huge in my book.

Love Lesson!

Advice November 30, 2011

After work I came home and snuggled up with some research by Csikszentmihalyi and started working on a new super secret study.  Of course I procrastinated by reading my favorite play, for the 50th time, Lysistrata by Aristophanes.  I am always struck by this quote:

Love and force go never hand in hand; and no man can be really happy, unless the woman be happy too.

Thanx Lysistrata, us ladies at times need to be reminded that love never hurts and a real man wants nothing more that utter bliss from his lady love.

Simply Beautiful!

Beauty, Celebrity August 15, 2011

You can have Kim Kardashian, this is beauty.  Simple, clean, real.  Being a woman who loves herself, respects herself, and carries herself like a lady is more beautiful than all the cosmetic surgery and contour in the world.
