Yay!!! Valentines Day is coming!!! I’m never truly ready but I’m trying to get a little festive.
Flowers and gifts are getting me in the spirit.
Then I decorated a little…let’s be honest this isn’t really my husband’s thing.
But he loved the note I left on his pillow. Check out my other blog post with 20 creative Valentines Day idea for creative people.
Christmas isn’t Christmas if it isn’t covered in glitter. Like, copious amounts of glitter! So, I’m starting my Christmas off with a newly pinkafied tree including two special pink glitter ornaments. It definitely wasn’t rocket science. Just grab some glue, any glue will do, and sprinkle glitter.
I added fishing string…trying to keep the focus on the glitter!
Then sit back and admire!
Sometimes a girl just wants something pretty and sometimes there’s more to the art of making something beautiful. In honor of May being Mental Health Month I want to talk about how crafting can help your mental state. You’re probably thinking “what!?!” “How does crafting help me mentally?” Well, engaging in an activity that you enjoy and find yourself lost in helps you reach a state of alpha brain activity called, Flow. This researcher named Mihaly Csikszentminalyi-try saying that 3 times fast-found that we experience less depression and more joy when we engage in activities that require focus and attention. This does wonders for brain neuroconnectivity which can have an impact on our general outlook on life. So, Dr Ally is writing you a script for one craft this week. Let’s get to it!
What will you need?
A piece of marble (mine was a little thick and heavy, I’d recommend something a little lighter).
2 drawer pulls
Clear round bumpers
Metallic spray paint (mine was rose gold)
Spray your drawer pulls. I used about 3 layers of paint.
Stick your round bumpers to the underside of your marble. These will keep your tray from sitting directly on a surface.
Measure how far you want your handles to go from the edge. Can you believe I’ve been using a centimeter ruler all these years and wasn’t even paying attention. Yes metric!!!
Add a drop of glue. This stuff is serious and goes a long way. You may also ways a mask, the fumes are pretty intense.
Wipe away any excess.
And there’s your stunning marble tray! Happy crafting!!!
The holidays were absolutely nuts. It was a flurry of family, friends, and drum roll please I got engaged!!! Along with about 2 million other lucky ladies from your social media feed. So, basically, I’m beyond excited and can’t wait to plan the rest of my life with my best friend. I’ll try to post as often as possible and continue taking pictures of my random crafts.
Here is the ubiquitous ring in the car shot. Come on, I had to, give a girl a break. Gotta love my big guy, he did so well.
Aaron, is the most caring, understanding, and loving man I’ve ever met. I am truly lucky and ecstatic to have the opportunity to spend my life with him. Thanks baby you are so amazing. Alright, now time to post some amazing crafts and get all Martha Stewart on that a$#…no more mushy stuff. We’re not about that.
My besties always know what gifts to bear. Considering I’m the girl that prefers an amazing experience to an amazing possession. I linger in the memories and live off of sentiment. So what encourages memories more than a smell? Nothing I say NOTHING!!! Thank you ladies for knowing exactly what to get me. Henri Bendel for the win!
My favorite for the day!
But I truly love them all. Secret, Henri Bendel scents-perfumes and candles- are layerable…yes layerable is a word!
Now, these really strange/beautiful flowers at a farmer’s market, Detroit I’m loving you. Downtown Detroit has this amazing farmers market. It spans over 4 city blocks. It’s filled with fresh veggies, barbecue, clothes and a great Mac and cheese truck. Yessss!
This is possibly the girliest post I’ve ever posted, but here we go. It’s wedding season and all of my many pending-nuptial girlfriends are obsessed with peonies in all of their ephemeral delicate goodness. So of course, I couldn’t resist finding some bouquet inspirations of my own. Here are four of my personal favorites. Flowers have always been a symbol of love and what better way to show your girlfriends you love them then help them create the most important bushels of flowers they will ever carry. Hopefully these can inspire all of you.
If you haven’t been to the flower district in downtown LA you need to go. However, if you are allergic stay as far away as possible I’ve been sniffling for the past two days.
One way to stay mindful is to remain focused on the beauty directly around you. These flowers were in the median as I was doing my ladies who lunch routine, gotta love the Santa Monica scenery.
Placing fresh flowers in your home can reduce levels of anxiety and depression.
