DIY Christmas

Lifestyle December 25, 2015

Better late than never!  Of course I wanted to post this days ago but life just kept happening and I mindfully went with her.  But seriously Christmas is my FAVORITE holiday. The smells, colors, family, food, decorations, and the CRAFTS!  Christmas crafts are on a whole other level. Definitely the holy grail. Well, I did a good deal of crafting this year and I’ll kinda walk you through some…

Any good DIY project worth its salt involves repurposing some old once useful object into a new more meaningful one. For my DIY Christmas I repurposed some old lightbulbs into Christmas tree ornaments.

My photog fiancé is the king of lighting…I mean his first word was literally light. So I figured this would be a great addition to our holiday decor. It’s easy,  I wrapped some twine around the bulb and hung them up. Bang!

Our colors were black and white so I played it up with some black ribbon, glitter and satin, (class you), some black ornaments, and white flowers. If you noticed my tree stand is an upside down ikea end table. The crafting way, repurpose, reuse, recycle. Got it from Oh Joy‘s yard sale. I made some 3D stars for my walls and to top my adorable little tree. I found a tutorial here.

We get a new camera/photography related ornament every year. We only have two to show for ourselves but I’m pretty sure we have time to grow our collection.

Next, I cut out about one million Christmas trees. There were so many. I stuck them on everything. You may even remember them from a previous post of mine. Hmmm I wonder who will find the post first?

This is the view into our cute little kitchen. Wish I was organized enough to take pictures of everything. Sometimes the holidays just get away from you.

Happy Fourth!!!

Family, Lifestyle July 4, 2015

For my family and myself the Fourth is a day we can shut out the world and spend some much needed together time. We BBQ, talk, eat an assortment of picnic foods, and watch fireworks from the roof of the car.

Three generations!

I’m teaching my mom how to take a selfie. She’s got that low angle glare down to a science.

My hubby seems pretty uninterested. But that’s an only child for you, always in their heads.

Then meeeee! Happy Fourth. Sorry no crafts today! They are coming.

Table Play

Alright people.  Friendsgiving was so exciting and my life so exhausting that it took me almost a week to post this.  But I made it and just in time to show you some table ideas for the real deal, THANKSGIVING!!!  I love Friendsgiving and for multiple reasons of course friends and food are among them but it also serves as a dry run for fun decorative ideas. I mean I NEVER get to design my mom’s tables like this.

Ok first things first.  Setting up the folding tables was all about understanding the space and the needs of our guests.  The space was my cousin’s gorgeous home with wood floors and glass walled, colored lit recording studio.  The guests were 50 super smart super chatty people that wanted to talk and eat.  So, rather than arranging out 4 folding tables in a long banquet style I made two square tables.  This was accomplished by aligning the tables side by side.  Everything was covered with white linen table clothes and a black and white printed runner (in other words old washed curtains).  Renew, reuse, recycle!

Then I started layering my table.  First the gold chargers, napkin, gold paper plate, and silver disposable flatware.  Let’s be honest for a moment.  If you invited 10 people then you use real dished but if you are expecting 50, disposable is the only option.  Then I wanted to add some height with large glass vases, mason jar, wine bottle with candle, and mercury votive.  After that I started layering flowers.  First the hanging amaranthus, then a whole array of chrysanthemums in purple, dark purple, and white.  Finally, I placed candles and my little spiky balls from my last post.

Here is a close up of the hanging amaranthus.

And here is more I placed above the mantle.  Finding balance around the room is very important.  You don’t want uber cute tables and a drab space.

Then we ate and were merry.

The spinach balls were inspired.

And look at how cute this little patio is…ummm adorbs.

SJP

Celebrity, Films August 31, 2011

I Don’t Know How She Does It shouldn’t just be the title of her next movie.

SJP is truly the woman most of us aspire to be.  She appears to be an attentive wife to her hubby as he prepares for his new Broadway show, mommy to three precocious kidletts, and manages her own full time career.  She reminds me of my own dear mother, but she definately doesn’t make my mom’s famous lasagna.  Pictures from Vogue Aug 2011
