So number one, today is my birthday!!! Yay, throw some glitter in the air!!!! Every bday I attempt to do some adorable DIY and this year is kinda my favorite. I mean look at this pink and floral goodness!
I started with an inordinate amount of balloons (light pink, pearl pink, white, and clear), glitter, confetti, a handmade paper cone (for putting glitter and confetti in the balloons), string, and a manual balloon pump.
I blew up all the balloons in different sizes and added glitter and confetti to the clear ones. Then I tied a string to something static, I choose my drawer knob and began tying balloons to the string. I spaced each balloon about four inches apart with a total length of 7 feet of string. I made a total of 5 strings. Then I taped them to the wall, by the string, adding tape to any area of string that I felt needed to be secured.
I flattened the balloons against the wall and occasionally taped one of them down too. Well, there were a few bald spots so I added a few free-floating balloons with a tiny roll of tape-sometimes more than one.
The wall didn’t feel complete so I added some silver dollar eucalyptus, lemon leaves, ranunculus, and silk peonies. At first, I tied strings around the ends of branches and tied them to other strings in the greater structure. This became exhausting so I literally started taping them directly to the wall or to balloons themselves.
This is what I ended up with, stinking cute. I placed a pink backdrop below my creation in preparation for my shoot.
Then just get cute and shoot!
If anyone makes a balloon wall I simply MUST see!!! Happy crafting my lovelies.
Maybe you haven’t noticed but pink is kinda my favorite color. Actually, pink is a serious obsession of mine. Things like this always get me thinking. Why do we favor colors? There have actually been quite a few studies about this and it is referred to as the ecological valence theory. Nerd alert 🤓!!! I won’t get too deep but basically we’ve evolved to use color for survival then we feel all the feels when we see our favorite colors. The more feels we feel the more we favor our favorite color. That’s the evolution/socialization debate in like two sentences. Where’s my Pulitzer?
Ultimately, I think Aerosmith said it right …
“Pink it’s my new obsession
Pink it’s not even a question,
Pink on the lips of your lover, ’cause
Pink is the love you discover”
“Pink it was love at first sight, and
Pink when I turn out the light
Pink gets me high as a kite
And I think everything is going to be all right
No matter what we do tonight.”
I’ve really been into nails lately, random! Well I was inspired by, my fave, Oh Joy’s nails. Ugh she’s such a dream. If you want this look keep reading!
Get the colors you want. I went with gold pink and purple. I recommend at least 3 colors with a neutral base. Put together all of the typical nail accoutrement; files, orange sticks, cuticle cream and some q-tips.
Cut your q-tips.
Here’s my neutral base!
Take your cut q-tips, dip them in your chosen color and spot away.
Don’t be scared to layer, I tend to start with three dots on each nail then add more as I see fit. Get creative!
Add two layers of top coat and voilà!!!
My obsession with marble continues. I’ve gone from covering everything in marble contact paper, to hunting through a small quarry for the perfect table top, to buying this super adorbs notebook, and now I’m getting my nails mixed up in all this.
My inspo, a marble notebook, came from Homegoods where all beautiful things are born. I picked three corresponding polish colors, black, copper, white, and a shiny top coat. Also note that you’ll need a cup and a tinie tiny paintbrush. Paint your nails black…I don’t think you need me to show you that.
Watch this video for a little first hand knowledge. I tried a few things first, my freehand sucks but the water trick worked really well. Start with a cup of lukewarm water, fill the cup to the top, add a drop or two of the color you want, and stir it to create a little design. Then dip your nail. Don’t be surprised if you get covered in polish spiderwebs. Just remove with a cotton ball and some acetone.
Get your tinie tiny brush, dip it in some copper and add a few metallic flecks and lines. Then dip the brush in acetone and make the lines a little less structured, blend them a bit.
Now add a few layers of clear to add some shine.
Then you’ve got marble inspired nails! You’re welcome!!!
Today, my craft couch was filled with crafting awesomeness. The focus of my creativity was a guilders pillow. This pillow is more than a comfy cozy little golden nugget. It’s the first item in our Gentry and Hicks Home collection. There should be a give away in our future.
Who doesn’t love a gold pillow? I would also love for everyone to embrace my tiger (I didn’t make the tiger one).
Here are the new labels we just got. Get ready for Gentry and Hicks Home. No longer just lotion.
If you know anything about me you know that pink is hands down my favorite color. So, of course when my little sis decided we should chalk our hair I opted for hot pink. It was a fun project so I wanted to bring it to all of you. First think you need are gloves, soft pastel chalk (we used Fiber-Castell), a spray bottel with water, and hair. After choosing the section of hair you want to color wet it with the spray bottle, then wet the pastel.
I chose a portion of my bangs. You just rub the chalk along your wet hair until the color sticks. Then you allow the chalk to air dry, I straightened my hair then curled it back afterwards (my hair was natural). Simple as that…
We also got my Mom in on the action, that’s her on the far left. My Dad wasn’t having any of it so we weren’t unable to give him a blue streak.
I’m still so obsessed with the gleaming brilliance of Minx nails.
After a long day my frizzy post party hair was remedied by the old trusty side pony. The 80’s come through yet again! I’m also newly obsessed with my red lip thanx to Make Up Forever in Rouge Artist Intense. You can never go wrong with a strong lip, especially in Winter.
This Chanel rendering made me happy. Thanx pinterest.
Summer’s here and where ever you turn you see pastels, pastels, pastels. So, as I prepare for yet another photo shoot at IONA Magazine, I turned to my uber secret “sources” for the most summery beauty trends. Here is a list of things I am obsessed with for summer:
1. Pastel lips: Lips are pink, purple, and nude this season and I’m all about a pastel purple pout. So try products from smashbox…they are my fav.
2. Candy Nails: Nails are totally opaque, stick with the pastels, pinks, blues, and purples…
3. Get cheeky: Every season boasts it’s IT cheek color, well for summer I wouldn’t focus on that perfect bronzer but a pink liquid blush. Keep it dewy ladies!!
Have a wonderful time searching for your product, keep me posted! This photo shoot should be fun. Now off to casting!
