These are three images from an MRI of Nan Wise, a 54 year old grad student and sex therapist. This probably isn’t the first time you’ve seen an MRI but it’s probably the first time you’ve seen an MRI of a woman having an orgasm. Thanks to researchers at Rutgers University we are beginning to demystify that ever illusive creature, the female climax. This study was headed by Dr Barry Komisaruk where he and his team found that more than 80 regions of the brain are activated during climax. Wow, according to the team the only other time you see activation like this is during a seizure. Areas of low activity are in red while high activity is in yellow and white. Who said science wasn’t sexy?
