InStyle launches StyleFind today

Advice, Fashion, Lifestyle November 30, 2010

The CEO of Time Inc, a global giant and owner of Essence, Entertainment Weekly, People, and Real Simple to name a few, announced the launch of their new shopping website.  This, according to WWD writer Amy Wicks, is the first shopping site launched by a fashion magazine.  Honestly, who would  know better about fashion than those who create fashion, but that’s only my opinion.  The site will feature over 150 retailers including: Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Mulberry, and Mango.  Also including over 2,000 brands.  InStyle Managing Editor, Ariel Foxman has been quoted saying:

“It will be like shopping with one of our magazine editors.  The experience is edited and the search function actually works. If you search for bags with a chain, you will actually see that, but in different price points and brands.”

I have used the site already,, and I am absolutely in love.  I searched for Tory Burch flats, gold purses, and bow rings, in a moment I was in shopping heaven.  There are even items identified as the editors pick to help assist you in your decision making.  I may never shop in person again, thank you to the InStyle shopping gurus for doing all of the work for us, just in time for Christmas.

Double Duty

Beauty November 30, 2010

I just bought the MAC Haute and Naughty mascara.  I very rarely purchase MAC products, I know I’m one of those weird people, but this product was a must have at the top of my cosmetic shopping list.  It’s double applicator feature makes it easy to go from day to night.  The pink tip defines and lengthens eyelashes while the purple tip kicks up the lash drama.  Only $18 online or in stores.

Oh my Dior!

The coveted fashion house has a new home on Bond St in London. Thursday was the grand unveiling where the most fashionable among us flooded into her large interior. The store is almost a staggering 3,000 square feet with floor to ceiling glass panels and crown molding. The designers wanted to maintain the spirit of the architecture while creating an inviting artistic space. If you are in or near London this is a must see.

Have a McQueen Christmas

Uncategorized November 29, 2010

This spectacular table scape was inspired by the whimsical macabre mind of Alexander McQueen’s most recent fashion line.  His curious juxtaposition is embodied by the ephemeral floral accents and butterflies against the striking  black backdrop. This one of a kind holiday table is less traditional to say the least, but it teaches effective lessons of table decor.  First, the center piece should integrate living components like seasonal flowers, evergreen, moss, even water.  Also, at each setting try including  personal touches like menus, family heirlooms, ornaments, or mementos for your holiday guests.  Keep the colors warm and simple while maintaining the theme of your overall holiday decor. Don’t go over the top with traditional colors, the red and greens, try warmer colors like mauve, rose gold, even white. Happy decorating!

Old look revived

RiRi has historically been the epitome of fashion, historically not recently. I loved this look. A smokey eye is always a Fall must have, but this seasons eyes can use a pop of color under and over the lid. Try a red like here with RiRi or try a deep rich purple or green. Happy painting ladies.
